Opening Scripture
“We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.” — Psalm 78:4 (NIV)
God calls every generation to faithfully share His truth so that His love and mighty works continue to shape future generations.
Welcome to today’s July 26 devotion on Passing Down a Legacy of Faith (Saints Joachim and Anne). Today the Church honors Saints Joachim and Anne, traditionally recognized as the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Their quiet faith and faithful example remind us that spiritual influence often begins within the home. Today’s devotion encourages us to invest in the next generation by living lives that point others toward Christ through our words, prayers, and daily example.

Many families treasure heirlooms that have been carefully passed down for generations—a family Bible, treasured photographs, handwritten letters, or meaningful keepsakes. These items tell stories about those who came before us.
Yet the greatest inheritance is not found in possessions but in faith. A child who watches parents pray, a grandparent who faithfully shares Bible stories, or a mentor who encourages someone to trust God leaves an eternal impact.
Saints Joachim and Anne may not have left behind wealth or fame, but their faithful lives helped prepare Mary to say “yes” to God’s extraordinary plan. Their quiet obedience reminds us that ordinary acts of faithfulness can influence generations in ways we may never fully see.
Psalm 78 reminds God’s people not to hide His works from future generations. Instead, they are to proclaim His faithfulness so that children and grandchildren will place their hope in the Lord. Faith was never meant to stop with one generation. It is a gift to be shared, lived, and demonstrated.
As we reflect on Passing Down a Legacy of Faith (Saints Joachim and Anne), we remember that spiritual influence is built through consistent faithfulness rather than dramatic moments. Although Scripture tells us little about Joachim and Anne, Christian tradition honors them as faithful parents who nurtured Mary in a home centered on God. Their example reminds us that raising children in faith begins with living faithfully ourselves.
A legacy of faith is established through daily prayer, obedience to God’s Word, forgiveness, humility, and love. Children and younger believers often learn more from what they observe than from what they are told. They notice how we respond to hardship, how we speak to others, and whether our trust in God remains firm during difficult seasons.
Even if you have no children, God can use you to influence others. Every act of kindness, every encouraging word, every prayer offered for someone else, and every example of faithful living becomes part of the spiritual legacy you leave behind.
God delights in using ordinary believers to accomplish extraordinary purposes. Just as Joachim and Anne faithfully prepared the way for Mary, our everyday obedience may prepare future generations to fulfill God’s calling upon their lives.
Today, consider the spiritual legacy you are building. Ask yourself whether your daily habits reflect your faith in Christ. Make prayer visible within your home, speak God’s Word often, and look for opportunities to encourage younger believers.
If you are a parent or grandparent, intentionally pray with your family and share testimonies of God’s faithfulness. If you are single or without children, invest in someone through mentoring, encouragement, or faithful service in your church community.
Remember that a legacy of faith is not created overnight. It grows through thousands of faithful choices made day after day. Trust God to multiply your influence for His glory.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the faithful example of Saints Joachim and Anne and for every believer who has helped pass down the knowledge of Your love from one generation to another. Thank You for those who prayed for me, taught me Your Word, and encouraged me to trust You.
Lord, help me build a lasting legacy of faith through my words, actions, and daily obedience. Fill my heart with wisdom, humility, patience, and unwavering devotion to You. Let my life reflect the love of Christ so that others will be drawn closer to You.
Strengthen families, parents, grandparents, teachers, pastors, and mentors as they guide others in faith. May future generations know Your truth because we remained faithful in our generation.
Use my life for Your eternal purposes and help me faithfully pass on the hope found in Jesus Christ. In His precious name I pray. Amen.
Reflection Question
What practical step can you take today to strengthen the spiritual legacy you are leaving for your family, friends, or those God has placed in your life?
Faith Challenge
Today, intentionally invest in the spiritual life of someone younger than you—a child, grandchild, family member, friend, or new believer. Share a meaningful Bible verse, pray with them, or tell them a personal testimony of how God has been faithful in your own life. Encourage them to trust the Lord in both joyful and challenging seasons.
If possible, begin a new habit of praying for them regularly and checking in on their spiritual growth. Remember, a lasting legacy of faith is built through consistent love, intentional encouragement, and faithful example. The seeds you plant today may grow into a lifetime of walking with Christ and inspire future generations to do the same.
